Safe Haven ( Weed & Seed) Hanna Community Center is one of the three Safe Havens under the Weed and Seed Program for the North End and Downtown areas of Lafayette. The purpose of the Safe Haven program is to provide youth with a safe environment to participate in educational, recreational, and cultural activities. The center is open 8:00am-8:00pm to maintain our safe haven status and is also available for youth and families in crisis.
The Food Pantry-The Hanna food pantry which initially was located in the rear office of the Hanna Center has been in existence for over 23 years. The food pantry is currently located in the Sandusky House. The food pantry is managed by the Church Women United who purchase and distributes the food to families and individuals who use the pantry. The record keeping, documentation and food distribution regulations are supervised by a Hanna employee, creating a joint effort that serves over 500 individuals monthly.
Homecare- The goal of the Homecare program is to allow clients to remain in their homes as long as possible without the interference of multiple agencies. The program also provides assistance to family and friends who may be involved in the care taking process. The staff becomes acquainted with each client in order to build trust and to learn their routines, schedules and medical concerns in order to develop a service plan that best meets the clients needs.
Wellness Center- The senior wellness program allows for seniors to fellowship while encouraging physical fitness, healthy eating and healthy living. The participants are assisted by a Hanna staff and experienced senior volunteer who helps each participant get familiar with the equipment and activities. A physician must complete the participants’ medical history and screening form, and a liability waiver must be signed. The wellness center exercise equipment consists of three treadmills, three Nusteps, therabands a riding bike and dumbbells.
Hanna’s Community Health Initiative- The primary objective of the Community Health Initiative is to identify community member’s needs in social services.
